Sustainability - DOEC Statement - F. M. Howell

DOEC Statement 2025

Sustainability statement from Howell's Director of Environmental Compliance

Over the course of the past 35 years, I have seen first-hand the character, perspectives, and values that define the culture of F. M. Howell & Company. The company is committed to its customers, community, employees, and environment. This is demonstrated through our sustainable operations, ethical practices, and ongoing investment in improvement year after year.

Since its founding in 1883, Howell has worked to deliver the best quality products and services in a manner that is environmentally, financially, and socially sustainable. Now we are embarking on a new journey to document our standing and progress in these areas so that we can publish the metrics that demonstrate that reality.

We have worked with all our suppliers and customers over the years to demonstrate compliance with all applicable environmental and packaging regulations. In 2023, we reported our carbon emissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project and began the process of reporting our ESG information to EcoVadis. We are also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) SCS Global, and PEFC to deliver products that come from responsibly managed forests.

We reported to the CDP our goal of reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 21.25% from our 2021 baseline by 2026, and we remain on track to achieve that target.

One of Howell's guiding principles is to continuously work toward improvements and to be the best in all we do, and that includes our commitment to the many facets of sustainability.
